Honolulu, Hawaiʻi – State Senator Rachele Lamosao, who represents Senate District (Pearl City, Waipahu, West Loch Estates, Honoʻuliʻuli, and Hoʻopili), announced today that HB 1800, the state supplemental budget, includes a key funding milestone to advance the development of a new elementary school in East Kapolei – marking an important step toward construction of this critical project for the rapidly growing West Oʻahu community.
As more families continue to call West Oʻahu home, the new East Kapolei Elementary School will play a key role in ensuring students have access to quality learning environments close to where they live.
The planned campus is designed to serve up to 750 students and will help alleviate overcrowding at ʻEwa Elementary School, while supporting continued residential growth in the region.
“This investment reflects our commitment to keeping pace with the needs of our community,” said Senator Lamosao. “Our keiki deserve safe, modern schools where they can learn, grow, and succeed. This project is about making sure West Oʻahu families have the resources they need now and into the future.”
Project plans for East Kapolei Elementary School have been completed and are currently in the permitting process with the City and County of Honolulu. With timely support, construction could begin as early as 2027, with a target opening in the 2029–2030 school year.
Senator Lamosao also acknowledged the collaboration and support of her legislative colleagues that helped move the project forward.
“Mahalo to my colleagues for their partnership in advancing this critical investment for our families,” Lamosao added. “We remain committed to building the schools our communities need, because our keiki deserve nothing less.”
